Bring on the Herringbone!

We published a new youtube video last week and the response has been just incredible. Thank you everyone for letting us know you liked it. This project was inspired by an ancient, woven stitch called "herringbone". We saw it being done by Chan Luu in the Sundance Catalog. We liked it but thought something was missing...more color and gems, of course....Nicole decided to do her takes on it ( Bark and Spearmint) and then Brittany added her color palette, Fresh Berries. This was a total team effort. I'm so proud of my team.

Being a very small company of three has advantages....I can turn to my right or my left and I can see the progress we're making. It is intimate, personal and rewarding. The downside to it being a little business is that it is made up of three perfectionists... we want to get it absolutely right each and every time. That does put the brakes on things sometimes. But in the end, we get it done the way it's supposed to be.

Today is Brittany's birthday. I want to wish her the best of birthdays. So young! I remember having that energy and youth. I'm so fortunate to be able to have so much talent around me in the two of them. Thank you, Nicole for a great project and Happy Birthday, Britt!

What did we do before Tila Beads?

Mosaic Wrap Bracelet

While I was swimming this morning, I spoke with a beading/swimming buddy who didn't know we had a new video project using Tila Beads. I guess I just assume that everyone is sitting around waiting to hear what we are up to at beadshop.com....NOT! Before we post our next video, which should be by the weekend, I thought I would post it on my blog for those who missed it. It is getting new fans daily on YouTube and I hope you enjoy it....Brittany Ketcham did an inspiring job of designing a wrap bracelet using Miyuki Tila Beads. The video is really well done, if I must say so myself...thanks to the filming and editing of Nicole Anderson. I have the best team!! It's small but perfect!
Happy Beading!

The sale on our new Miyuki's and Freshwater Pearls is unadvertised and just the next few days, so please take a look. And we always have free shipping to US and Canada. Tangerine Sale and Hot New Project!

Img_7587
Orange2
Tangerine, persimmon, coral and mango are the hot colors for 2012. It's a new twist on orange and I love it! We have collected a menagerie of beads and materials in hot coppers, reds and (of course) tangerines for you to choose from all on sale. 20% OFF! From threads to gems, tila beads and leather cord. If it's orange...it's on sale! Pour yourself a glass of sangria and enjoy!

We also have added a new, free project, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Can you blame us for doing it in carnelian? Gem clustering is really easy and it makes such a sensuous look with gems and pearls. Happy Beading!

Just In! Chinese Knotting Cord in .06

Img_7397

I've finally sourced my favorite size of Chinese Knotting Cord (.06mm) and it's the most fun to macramé with. The knot is elegant but not too big and the skinny cord fits many semi-precious beads holes twice, so the options are expanded now for bead selection and improved creativity!
Because of our Green Sale, all of the shades of my favorite color (green, of course) are on sale through Monday at Midnight. 20% off all green beads, cords and leather, including our new Sage Deer Hide Ribbon. Plus a variety of other colors posted in our New Arrivals section.

Necklace Knotted with Love

Etsy_96a_115

"Tony absolutely loves this moss agate bead that I bought from you last May in San Francisco. He just finished taking these photos for my soon-to-be-open Etsy shop and wanted me to send them to you all to see what I made using the bead as a focal.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Love,
Marlene"
Last year I taught at the SF Bead and Design Show and Marlene Lamar had flown in for classes from the east coast. I was struck then, as I am now, with the enduring romance Marlene and her husband Tony Klepich have for each other. Unfortunately, Marlene and Tony live far away, but she stays in touch, which I love. After taking Pearl Knotting from me, Marlene has perfected her knotting and is soon to open an Etsy shop of her own. I will keep you posted on the link to it. In the meantime, thank you, Marlene for sharing your lovely creation photographed by your very special husband and soul mate.

Easy Valentines with Irish Linen

Img_2350
Whether it's for scrapbooking or card making, our Irish Linen is both strong and distinctive for papercrafts. In this adorable card Brittany made for Travis, she used several colors of our 4 Ply Belfast Linen to sew pockets large enough to fit cut out hearts. The paper used was scrapbooking paper found in most craft stores. Happy Valentines!

A Fabulous Clasp with Deer Hide Ribbon

Here's a really easy project that ends up looking like a zillion dollars!

Bar_clasp_long_202

This clasp is such a great solution for ending flat ribbons or deer hide with a closure that looks super polished. I hunted everywhere for it and my wishes came true recently. We have a few in stock and I've just reordered, but it's worth the wait, if you have to. In a width of 26mm, it fits the deer hide perfectly. We call the clasp Silver Lining and it is a sterling silver Egyptian-style clasp. The mechanism slides apart and snaps back together.
You can easily make a wonderful bracelet or choker using this clasp and deer hide. You need about 2 inches more of deer hide than your finished length. Just enough so leather can loop through on both sides and get glued in place.

Abundant_beauty_turquoise_202b

We carry it in three fabulous colors! It is made in America under strict guidelines of the US Department of Fish and Game using all natural dyes and techniques. So, here's how simple it is. All you need is the clasp, deer hide, scissors, measuring tape, binder clip and a good glue that will bond leather; our Hypo-tube cement is terrific.

1. Slide about 3/4" of the leather through one of the open bars of the clasp. Beneath the bar, layer on some glue across the back of the leather.

Step_b

2. Fold over the leather onto itself just checking it is evenly placed.

Step_d

3. Using a binder clip or clothespin, clip the leather down while it dries. Allow an hour for it to really set. Repeat on second side.

Step_e

That's it! I hope you enjoy! We have a few clasps in stock and more are on their way.
